Understanding your tasks and creating a perfect schedule for your tasks for the day is only a few of effective habits you develop over time. There might be a dozen more of things that you learn to cope with, and some are unhealthy – like stacking up post-its on your computer’s monitor in order to remember the things you need to do. Overtime, it will blow up on you and it will sink you into more stress and prone for more mistakes and forgetfulness.
But how do you avoid the doom that is waiting to happen? How can you possibly rectify the issues that you are suffering from? Organizing your office items and even your schedule properly. A clean desk lets you think properly and helps you remember where you put things much quicker and remember tasks better.
Aside from furiously stacking important documents in one corner in order to not lose them or spot them immediately, why not invest in colourful file organizers that could even add aesthetic to your desk and at the same time easier to manage through? A good tip would be to arrange them alphabetically with the names of the companies or clients sticking out to see it at first glance.
Putting your office supplies like staplers and paper clips in one corner also helps – you don’t have to waste time looking for them when in a rush. Putting your pencils and pens in a decorative cup or case is also a good idea of a functional decoration. You won’t have to look for pens and pencils everywhere when you need them – just pluck them out of the glass!
A way to destress sometimes is to look at your family photos and souvenirs from the last trip with your friends or family, but too much of it can actually distract you from the task at hand. The fact that there are a lot of things you can look at aside from the screen can impede you from advancing onwards to your task and even makes you feel drained faster.
Putting your landline phone on the side of your computer and a small notepad on the side helps you rush notetaking when an important call comes in. Perhaps even spend a little bit of your time to organize the wiring on your desk in order to not accidentally pull one and cause you problems during work. A disorganized wiring can even cause you problems and even distract you from the task. Besides, it doesn’t look appealing overall.
What you can do is unplug and replug them in a more fixed and hassle-free way – perhaps even tie it up so it wouldn’t cause chaos in the long run. Marking the wires can also save you a lot of time if ever you need to unplug a part or one accidentally unplugs from working.
One last thing – create an effective task manager that ranks your tasks from most important to the least. It doesn’t only make your desk seem like a tornado hit it and left a couple of debris in its wake. You should always be prepared for the worst and perhaps arrange the papers ahead of time, from importance or per deadline. Keeping things organized will help you breathe easy and live a stress-free life, making you work much faster and efficient throughout.
